The Apes Release New EP on Birdman Records
In terrifying mirror world, Byrds release new EP on Apeman Records, talk backwards and wear hats on their feet

Too human for Apetown; too primate for Humantown; the Apes have, after two full-lengths on Les Savy Fav's Frenchkiss label, found a new niche on Birdman Records. And to celebrate, they've just issued a new EP of completely deranged, orgiastic fantasy rock, which continues their practice of building their songs by spinning elliptical tales around enigmatic drawings based on non-existent stories that, in press release palaver, would "burn green into the eyes of Philip K. Dick, Jorge Luis Borges, and Ray Bradbury" (perhaps an unfortunate turn of phrase regarding Borges, who went blind later in life).

Tapestry Mastery, produced by Trans Am's Jonathan Kernel, was released on May 24th, and opens with a skit song involving "blind weaver Maximilla" receiving a mysterious package, which turns out to be-- ahoy!-- this new Apes EP. The story unfolds from there (if by "unfolds" one means "continues to make very little discernable sense"). Listeners who dug the newest Liars album's heady concept and ambition, but shied away from its questionable musicality, will probably go ape... go bananas... damnit!... will probably really get super into this EP. The Apes have exactly one gig scheduled right now, on June 25th, at Washington, DC's 9:30 Club. Tracklist-a-go-go:

01 Maximilla Intro
02 Tapestry Mastery
03 Warp and Woof
04 Mr. Changeling
05 Mind of Maximilla
06 Three Mages
