Frog Eyes' Carey Mercer Readies Solo Album
Herpetoculturist critics prepare to dissect every note

Carey Mercer, aka head honcho behind the crazy-folk (it's a genre now!) combo Frog Eyes, recently recorded a debut solo album under the alias Blackout Beach. Entitled Light Flows the Putrid Dawn, the new effort is scheduled to reach the masses via Soft Abuse records on July 27th. Reportedly, Mercer's solo work reflects an even greater sense of the absurd and abstract than his Frog Eyes material, a declaration that will sound a bit odd to anyone with even a passing knowledge of that band's previous full-lengths, 2002's The Bloody Hand, 2003's The Golden River, and this year's limited-edition, all-acoustic Ego Scriptor. However, it appears to be so. A tracklist, perhaps?

You'd think that Ego Scriptor, a solo album, and a tour with (and backing) Destroyer would be more than enough for Frog Eyes, but a busy year remains for Mercer and his gifted amphibians, as the group prepares to release their fourth full-length, via Absolutely Kosher. Though little is known of the record as of yet, it has been given a title of The Folded Palm, and is set to be released via the Absolutely Kosher label this October.
