Fridge's Adem Ilhan Prepares Solo Debut for U.S. Release
Other kitchen appliances to form Kinks cover band

Fridge guitarist Kieran Hebden's 2003 release, Rounds, under the moniker Four Tet, landed at a solid #15 on Pitchfork's Best of 2003 list. Now bassist Adem Ilhan has one in the super-proverbial oven, as he readies his debut solo album for Domino Records. Though already available in Europe (and in fact, already reviewed in Pitchfork!), the disc will finally be hitting U.S. shores on July 13th.

Does it sound like Four Tet? Hey, don't go asking questions before I answer you. And anyway, it doesn't. At least, not really. At all. For one thing, Ilhan sings; for another, it's closer to folk music than electronic music. Sez Ilhan, "Initially I just pressed 'Play' and sang to see what would come out. And then [I] kept the key phrases and wrote around them. Then I really thought about it and became very particular about my words." He goes on to explain that writing good lyrics is a challenge because "you only get one shot to get it right." Which, as everyone knows, is lunacy-- you can rewrite those sons of bitches for 20 years if you do so please. But ours is not to contradict. Here, want a tracklist?:
