Peaches Gangs Up with PETA
"Give those animals beards and tits!"

We all know that artists tend to be a little left-leaning politically (well, not the country ones, but are they "artists" or "singers"). And Peaches ain't no exception: The world's craziest tits-and-dick-shaking, slit-sliding, titty-sucking electro-clash queen, has aligned herself with the wacky, left-wing veggienazis of PETA (People for Ethical Treatment of Animals). In case you're unaware, PETA is that group that, among other things, compared the treatment of farm animals to the Holocaust, petitioned the governor of Wisconsin to change the state's official drink from milk to beer, and distributed anti-KFC baseball cards to young kids at school. You know, regular run-of-the-mill special interest activities.

To be fair, Peaches' activities haven't been nearly that ridiculous. Apparently, she found out that an elephant that shared her nom du plume at the Lincoln Park Zoo in Chicago felt a little chilly after the winter, and she wrote the zoo to protest on PETA's behalf: "I was shocked to learn from PETA that three aging elephants, Peaches, Tatima, and Wankie... were relocated to Lincoln Park Zoo last year, where they just weathered their first winter in one of the coldest cities in the country," she wrote in a fax to the zoo. "Now, they are confined in a small indoor area... when the temperature drops below comfort level." Peaches then goes on to implore a relocation to a warmer Tennessee zoo.

The zoo has not yet responded to the plea, but according to the PETA website (which, unfortunately, I had to visit while writing this article), a nearby Detroit Zoo recently decided it would close its elephant exhibit for the same cold-weather reasons. The decision was probably (and by probably I mean hopefully) not a result of Peaches' letter to the Chicago zoo, but maybe it will cause Chicago to rethink the appropriateness of keeping elephants in such chilly weather.

While we at Pitchfork make no judgment on the mission and tactics of PETA, we must say, anything that distracts Peaches from recording a follow-up to Fatherfucker can't be all bad.
