Xiu Xiu have been drawing battle lines in the music community since their scarifying debut, Knife Play, and continue to do so, even after several slightly more accessible releases. This year's dramatic love letter to the alienated and possessed, Fabulous Muscles, provided us with some of Xiu Xiu's first politically minded lyrics, as well as Jamie Stewart's most danceable tunes, plus one of the most touching homosexual love ballads ever written.

But whether you choose to exalt them to a grandiose position of utter profundity or write them off as an overrated band of hyper-pituitary, overly-experimental, pretentious, inaccessible Prozac patients, you must recognize one thing: They do exist.
