M83 Launch First-Ever North American Tour
British secret service to receive secret transmissions at select cities

Eric Marth and Aaron Mandel report:

"Dear Journal,
Tonight, rejoicing, fire in the streets, sparks in the sky. Is it really over? Has the standoff ended? 'Yes, it's true,' a tattered boy in the street told me, staring up through oily eyes, and I could see he spoke the truth. The men of M83 had lifted the embargo on their finely harvested records and psychotic live show, bringing to new shores a rich and heavy blend of synthetic sounds with the same feel as the instruments of old. People sing free with the end of tyranny!"

This, according to the spiral notebook with the unicorn that I found at a bus stop around the corner. I didn't believe the alarming relic myself until I heard the same from the group's labels, Gooom Disques and Mute. But behold! It is now officially confirmed and true: French synthgazing duo M83 have announced their first-ever North American tour, and will be hitting the road come September for a disturbingly high-mileage one-week jaunt: According to the itinerary, these noble foreigners can hightail it from Chicago to California to Seattle in the time it takes Kevin Shields to fold a t-shirt. Check how consecutive these dates are:

09-13 Philadelphia, PA - Beyond
09-14 New York, NY - Bowery Ballroom
09-15 Montreal, PQ - Cabaret Music Hall
09-16 Chicago, IL - Empty Bottle
09-17 San Francisco, CA - Mezzanine
09-18 Los Angeles, CA - Knitting Factory
09-19 Seattle, WA - Neumo's
09-20 Seattle, WA - KEXP's John in the Morning Show

Naturally, these performances are in support of the long-awaited domestic release of their sophomore full-length, Dead Cities, Red Seas & Lost Ghosts-- winner of Pitchfork's coveted 8th Best Album medallion back in 2003. As previously reported by Pitchfork's Dr. C. Byrom, Mute Records has licensed the band's album for stateside release, and will be delivering an expanded edition of the record to stores nationwide tomorrow. The double-disc package will feature the standard album in full on the first disc, with the second boasting five bonus tracks (live performances and album outtakes) along with two videos.
