Go-Betweens Prepare Three Expanded Reissues
Promos released with hip-hop preview overdubs: "New shit! (New shit!)"

The Go-Betweens will complete the reissuing of their back catalog with the September 6th release of the last three albums from their first incarnation, Liberty Belle and the Black Diamond Express (1986), Tallulah (1987), and 16 Lovers Lane (1988). These reissues, like the first three released in 2002, will be released on the Lo-Max label, and will each contain an entire disc of bonus material, including B-sides, live songs, radio sessions, demos and video clips.

The band recently played a sold-out and very conceptual show at London's Barbican Centre involving a two-hour audio/visual experience entitled Before Hollywood: A Film Retrospective. Circus Records described this part of the program as a "marathon visual cornucopia." We don't know about you, dear reader, but when times are tough and the chips are down, there's really nothing we like more than a nice cup of tea and a marathon visual cornucopia. It's something of a fetish, to be honest. The Go-Betweens' Grant McLennan also recently performed "The Man Who Sold the World" at the Brisbane Cabaret Festival in a production of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars, which we're betting was probably nothing like Kurt Cobain's version of the same song from MTV Unplugged all those years ago.

In other Go-Betweens news, the band's gorgeous early salvo "Cattle and Cane" will make an appearance on the forthcoming Rhino "80s Underground" compilation Left of the Dial due October 5th, which will feature kindred spirits such as Dream Syndicate, the Dead Kennedys and Kate Bush. You know, all those people who lived underground in the 1980s. In the meantime, the Go-Betweens themselves continue to bask, very legitimately, in the reflected glory of 2003's Bright Yellow Bright Orange. Some tracklists for you:
