The Magnetic Fields to Launch European Tour
+/- diametrically opposed to opening slot

John Toes & Jeremy C. Baron report:
Lonely highways across Europe are bracing their asphalt selves to support a busload of Magnetic Fields this fall. The ragtag crew of aloof pomp-rockers has recently announced plans to tackle a 17-date stint that will take them across the rainswept, non-American plains of England, Germany, Spain, etc, to perform material from their latest full-length, i, to folks who can't make out a goddamn word of it. The tour kicks off in early October at Copenhagen's Vega, then winds around through Sweden, Norway, Portugal, and a handful of other aforementioned places before coming to a sudden halt with a dramatic finale at Dublin's Olympia Theater. Dateline:

10-02 Copenhagen, Denmark - Vega
10-03 Stockholm, Sweden - China Theatre
10-04 Oslo, Norway - Rockefeller Music Hall
10-06 Hamburg, Germany - Fabrik
10-07 Berlin, Germany - Passionskirche

Additionally, MagFields frontman Stephin Merritt will be also play a pair of shows in New York City before and after the overseas jaunt. On August 18th, one of his many side projects, The Three Terrors (also featuring Dudley Klute and LD Beghtol) will perform a "musical tribute to New York City," according to Merritt's official website. The show is titled "Give My Regards to Bellevue: The Three Terrors vs. NYC", and will be part of the Manhattan arts festival Howl, which all adds up to the promise of a completely unpretentious night of enjoyably lowbrow sugarpop. In addition, The Magnetic Fields (the real deal) will play Carnegie Hall on November 18th, as part of the Nonesuch at Carnegie series, at which-- if the title is to be trusted--- Nonesuch artists perform at Carnegie Hall.
