Sing-Sing Raise Money for New Record
Travis "Sing Sing Sing" on for a nickel an hour at St. Vincent and Wellington

After being dropped from their label following the release of Joy and seeing disappointing sales of their self-released Madame Sing-Sing EP, the group sent out an email plea to fans asking them to buy a copy of the release if they wanted to see a new Sing-Sing album. Amazingly enough, the request worked (Lush fans, let me hear you say H'OH!), and the resulting record is reportedly well underway.

This guerilla-indie tactic has been used by many a band looking to forego the traditional route of working with labels and such, whether by choice or by necessity. However, unlike some of their American counterparts (I'm looking at you, Hey Mercedes), at least fans of Sing-Sing got an EP out of the deal. Plus, some fans were so generous that they donated more on top of the EP, and those people get a special shout-out on Sing-Sing's website. Ain't it sweet?

The band is currently working on 11 tracks for the album with the hopes of a late 2004 release. As with the previous EP, Mark Van Hoen and El Dreidente are producing, and Alan Moulder will be helping out with the mixing/knob twiddling, which answers some of the questions about why they couldn't pay for the sessions. The album title is still unfinished business, but some of the song titles being thrown around are "Going Out Tonight", "Come, Sing Me a Song", "Lover", and "Mr. Karachi". And they're very, very grateful.
