The Faint Reveal New Album Details, Tour
"Halloween ain't till manana!"

Since the August 2001 release of Danse Macabre, The Faint have shot to the brink of crossover success with piles of favorable press and a tour opening for No Doubt, but released relatively little: Only a crummy remix album, and a stray new song on the compilation Saddle Creek 50. The remix album didn't make much of a splash, while Saddle Creek 50's multimedia bonus content included post-concert parking lot footage of what-- as far as we could tell without looking too closely-- appeared to be Faint singer Todd Baechle actually taking a shit on the ground, watched by a posse of Gwen Stefani-loving teenage girls.

Psychologically scarring, sure, but we still find ourselves reliving the visual as we report that The Faint's forthcoming new full-length, Wet from Birth, has been slated for a September 14th release via Saddle Creek. Titles first, then details:

01 Desperate Guys
02 How Could I Forget
03 I Disappear
04 Southern Belles In London Sing
05 Erection
06 Paranoiattack
07 Drop Kick The Punks
08 Phone Call
09 Symptom Finger
10 Birth

What else we can tell you? Well, we've heard the sucker, and can safely say that it's probably the weirdest Faint LP to date; the strings that bassist Joel Petersen draped all over his last solo album appear in full force alongside digitized slurping noises, and in spots, Baechle has clearly discovered that his vocals-fucking-with box can be set beyond "Cher" to "Lawnmower Man". "Phone Call" was written by drummer (and brother) Clark Baechle. "Erection" is entirely about erections (it is also hilarious, perhaps unintentionally). "I Disappear" is not a Metallica cover, but will be released as a single in October, complete with a video that uses bright lights and bad-trip psychedelic hues to achieve the same unnerving results as the previous album's red-and-black colorcode.

The Faint will spend October and November touring, with most dates also featuring TV on the Radio. And they'll have projection screens with them, so look forward to more of the visuals that have accompanied performances on previous tours. (TVOTR's Tunde Adebimpe, like Joel Petersen, is a video artist, but no word on whether they'll be sharing the gear.)
