After two years of downtime, Hot Snakes-- the fiery-awesome rock 'n' roll band that sprung from the ashes of Drive Like Jehu like a fuckin' superpanther-- are back to kick another hole in your speakers. Their 2002 album Suicide Invoice was a hot contender for Pitchfork's album of the year back then (okay, #35, but it charted for a reason), and still remains in heavy rotation on the office P.A. Now the group has announced an October 5th release date (on their own Swami label) for their forthcoming third LP Audit in Progress, which is being pressed up even as you read this very sentence.

The new long-player is said to feature the most intense music the band has yet produced. To quote the official press release: "The sub sonics of past work has been reintroduced with speaker blowing defiance." Whatever that means, it sounds good, doesn't it? The band's renewed vigor is in part thanks the addition of new drummer Mario Rubalcaba, who joined to replace original drummer Jason Kourkounis, now a full-time member of Burning Brides. Rubalcaba has previously played with The Black Heart Procession, Clikitat Ikatowi, and, like Reis, Rocket from the Crypt.
