Ex-Liars Members Form New Band

It's not quite like Stuart Sutcliffe leaving The Beatles before they hit it big, but we needed a lead-in. As the elderly among you may recall, art-punk trio Liars were once a four-piece. However, shortly after the release of their acclaimed 2002 debut, They Threw Us All in a Trench and Stuck a Monument on Top, bassist Pat "Nature" Noecker and drummer Ron Alberson departed, and catch-all percussionist Julian Gross stepped in to take their place. Now Noecker and Alberson are looking to reclaim a little of that lost glory, with a brand new band that goes by the name of No Things. Pitchfork spoke to Noecker via e-mail to get some details on the new band and their future plans.

"We've played one show at Hanks in Brooklyn which was really great," Noecker said. "A lot of people came to watch us fuck up our new songs. It was good." The band will be hanging out and playing a few shows in their native New York this fall, then they'll be heading off to England for more touring and recording. Although Noecker admits that the band is "fresh out of the womb," he says they're enjoying playing out again. There are presently no plans to enter the studio, but the group will be gigging around NYC over the next month. Come hear the sound of the new Brooklyn underground:
