Mono to Release Third Album, Tour U.S.

Japanese post-rock quartet Mono have plans-a-plenty for your aural consumption-- not only are they putting out their third album chock-full of crunching metal, huge string sections and origami paper to fold your own paper crane, but they're also planning a remix album and an expansive fall tour along with Le Fly Pan Am. Happy fun crescendo time. Entitled Walking Cloud and Deep Red Sky, Flag Fluttered and the Sun Shined, the new album is due out October 5th via Temporary Residence, and features a string quartet and "melodramatic production" by the legendary and unavoidable Steve Albini. Tracklist:

01 16.12
02 Mere Your Pathetique Light
03 Halcyon (Beautiful Days)
04 2 Candles, 1 Wish
05 Ode
06 The Sky Remains the Same as Ever
07 Lost Snow
08 A Thousand Paper Cranes

The remix album was actually previously available as a Japanese import, but will now see a stateside release on September 28th. The project is called New York Soundtracks and features remixes from 2002's One Step More and You Die assembled by the band and Aki Onda, found-sound craftsman of last year's remarkable Ancient & Modern: Cassette Memories. Calla, Loren Mazzacane Connors, Jackie-O Motherfucker and the mighty Onda himself are among the remixers.

As we mentioned, Mono are also touring this fine country, and in fact, will be hitting the road starting tonight. Unfortunately, according to Fly Pan Am's official website, one of their members seriously injured themselves by falling off a ladder this past weekend, and they'll be unable to join Mono for the first leg of the tour. They're hoping to rejoin by October 26th in Oklahoma City, assuming he recovers or they're able to find a replacement. Dates:
