John Vanderslice Launches 35-Date U.S. Tour

Starting this Wednesday, lo-fi wizard (though, to be fair, not so much anymore) and rock 'n' roll artiste John Vanderslice is hitting the road once again with his compadres The Mountain Goats, Will Johnson and Robbers on High Street, and he's also playing select shows with Karate, The Secret Machines and Joan of Arc, among others. The fall lineup of the Vanderslice crew is largely the same as when he toured with Pedro the Lion this summer, with the notable addition of Joshua Zarbo from Spoon pluckin on the bass guitar. Additionally, this tour sees Vanderslice promising the unveiling of brand new songs such as "Radiant with Terror" as well as a new vibraphone! "This band has the excited efficiency of the CA Dept of Corrections," says his website. Let's hope they're not as liberal with the cavity searches.

Vanderslice will be headlining all shows except the dates with The Mountain Goats, but he promises longer sets at those as well. In addition, Vanderslice and crew are reported to be joining the tag-team duo of John Darnielle and Peter Hughes onstage for a handful of songs, providing a full-band flourish to the generally minimal Mountain Goats experience. Reports of the two bands performing under the nomenclature "Vandernielle" are, as of yet, bullshit. Also of note are the two San Francisco dates, which will celebrate the 7th anniversary of Vanderslice's fine San Francisco recording studio, Tiny Telephone, under the moniker "Tiny Telebration". Britt Daniel of Spoon will be headlining the October 20th show at the Swedish American Hall, while Vanderslice will perform at Cafe du Nord on the 19th, with extra bands that you can peep below at both shows.
