Green Day Announce First Tour in Four Years

Oh, relax. Pitchfork's relatively positive review of Green Day's latest, American Idiot, notwithstanding, this site is in no danger of transforming into some sort of Warped Tour mash note wankfest. But you must admit that the deified mall-punk trio has turned its new politically charged rock opera into a nuclear-scale career resurgence: Idiot has scored the band a chart-topping radio hit, uncharacteristically positive (not quite "glowing") reviews, a backslapping photo op with John Kerry last week on Letterman, and now, a full-bore tour-- their first in four years-- aiming to reinsert the band into the Zeitgeist's upper crust permanently. However, just in case your thirst for profane, off-the-cuff bratty behavior can't be sated in the meantime, Green Day also recently minted a seven-track AOL Sessions performance, which debuts today at AOL Music but will then be repeatedly re-aired on Fuse, if you're into that sorta thing. All times Eastern:

Finally, if in a moment of ethical weakness you've inadvertently illegally downloaded a Green Day song or two, now's your chance to make amends: The GreenDayMusic.com store is now offering the rather bizarre but strangely appealing Green Day CD-R pack, featuring five blank CD-Rs printed with the classic CD artwork for past albums Dookie, Nimrod, and Warning, as well as American Idiot, and a rare band photo completing the royal flush, all for the low low price of $7.99. So make those ill-gotten Internet gains look semi-legitimate. Green Day forgives you.
