New Queens of the Stone Age Album Due in March

More details have surfaced surrounding the forthcoming Queens of the Stone Age album, as the band reenters the studio this month-- without Nick Oliveri-- to record two new songs. The presently untitled follow-up to 2002's kickass (and fully closed-captioned) Songs for the Deaf has been confirmed for a March 2005 release.

Posting on the Queens' official website, a source close to the band dropped the news that two songs will be added to the 18 already completed. "Two new songs just came up and the boys did not want to wait for the record after this to record them. They feel like the weight of the wait until March is already a long enough wait for them to wait." And with titles like "The Fun Machine Took a Shit and Died" and "Don't Need a Name", we're pretty confident you won't want to wait, either.

Queens frontman Josh Homme has reportedly recruited his girlfriend, Brody Dalle of The Distillers, to sing on the new record as well. Homme recently told NME that the album will be a "return to the band's roots," in light of Oliveri's departure, as well as the absence of the Screaming Trees' Mark Lanegan, who has taken time away from the band to release his own solo album and lay down various crap with Greg Dulli's Twilight Singers project.

But there is good news for you liberal, peace-lovin' hippies out there. According to a post on the QOTSA website, Homme and Oliveri were recently spotted together at a Eagles of Death Metal (Homme's side project) gig laughing, talking, hugging, and otherwise palling around. Reunion? Who can tell? Now if only we can get Hilary Duff and Lindsay Lohan on the same page, we'll all be sitting pretty. And speaking of those Eagles and their Death Metal, the band will be playing a Halloween gig with The Cramps in San Francisco at the Warfield. A post on their site indicates that they're "special secret guests" for the show, which leads us to wonder if perhaps they don't understand the concept behind this whole Internet thing. The word's out now, baby!
