Despistado Embark on 37-Date North American Tour

Since early 2001, Saskatchewan-based Jade Tree rockers Despistado have been producing some high-assed energy post-punk, but they didn't begin to gain recognition until-- shockaroo!-- the release of their debut EP, The Emergency Response, last June. Since then, they've charted favorably on Pitchfork's discerning ratings scale, and also been nominated for a CASBY. Presented by some Canadian radio station and South by Southwest's ugly sister North by Northeast, the CASBY Music Awards recognize fan favorites ("Canadian Artists Selected By You" = CASBY), and this year's "Favorite Indie Band" nominees include Despistado, Death From Above 1979, The Illuminati, and Alexisonfire.

This momentum ought to come in handy as they work towards completing the massive 37 tour dates they've scheduled for North America. The first part of the tour will be spent opening for Piebald and fellow Canadians The Weakerthans, but dammit if that won't stop the band from returning to those same areas when it's time for some serious headlining exposure. Austin and Dallas in particular get a double dose of Despistado. And of course, the rest of the country is well represented, too-- and with deep winter settling in on Saskatchewan, we can only give thanks to the superior U.S. climate for allowing such an abundance of shows.
