Ex-Jam Frontman Paul Weller Hospitalized

According to his official website, erstwhile Jam/Style Council frontman Paul Weller is currently in the hospital being treated for "chronic tonsilitis and Quinsy (Peritonsillar abscess)." Weller was admitted this past weekend after battling throat problems the previous week. A post from Saturday offered a description of the influential frontman's medical condition, and noted the cancellation of a string of upcoming live shows. "He was unable to speak and his face and neck were severely swollen. This means due to his type of illness, which is obviously affecting his throat, he is unable to continue with the rest of the tour in the U.K. and Ireland." The update advises fans to hold onto their tickets until rescheduling plans are determined.

On a more positive note, Weller has released a special DVD edition of his 2004 solo album Studio 150. This was the seventh full-length of the punk pioneer's solo career, and was devoted strictly to covers, including such classics as Bob Dylan's "All Along the Watchtower" and Neil Young's "Birds". The DVD offers a live concert with tracks from the new album and an interview with the man himself. Additionally, Weller's new single, "Thinking of You", sees a British release on CD, seven-inch and DVD formats on November 15th. The DVD single will feature a Beta Band remix of "Wishing on a Star".
