Pitchfork: Nirvana Bassist Auctions Self on eBay

What a way to cap a legacy. In one of the oddest bits of news to cross the Pitchfork desks in months, former Nirvana (and Sweet 75, rah!) bassist Krist Novoselic has just sold himself on the popular online shit-sellin' service, eBay. A winning bid of $7300.00 was paid this past Sunday for the opportunity to fly the grungy skies in a Novoselic-piloted Cessna plane. Details state that the winner will be picked up at west coast airport of his/her choice, before being flown to a restaurant in the city of Krist's choice where they will dine for lunch. No mention as to whether that $7k includes gratuity.

A particularly creepy legal disclosure on the bidding page, reassuringly states that "the successful bidder will be required to sign a 'Voluntary Release Of Liability Acknowledgement And Assumption Of Risks, And Indemnification Agreement' in which s/he will agree, among other things, to voluntarily assume the risk of any and all injury, illness, death, damage, loss, or harm that may in any way result from, or arise in connection with, the bidder's participation in the activity." In other words, if Novoselic pulls a Buddy Holly, you are not allowed to sue him from beyond.

Those wondering what the hell the Nirvana bassist would (or should) know about flying a plane can sleep easy, as the bidding page assures us that "aside from playing the bass really well, Krist also pilots his own Cessna 182 Skylane jet really well." All proceeds from the auction will go towards an official charity of sorts-- the non-profit political organization People for the American Way. Meanwhile, those who lost out on the flight will have to settle for getting their posthumous Nirvana thrills the old fashioned way, with the recently released career-spanning box set With the Lights Out, which debuted at #19 on the Billboard charts, and received an unfortunate (if sadly accurate) 6.3 from the Pitchfork internet homepage. They totally sucked before fatherhood, maaan.
