Yo La Tengo to Release 3xCD Career Retrospective

Nick Patch and Chris Rediske report:
As bizarre as this may sound, Yo La Tengo has been together nearly 20 years. Related fact #1: You're old. Related Fact #2: We are too. However, as forward-looking as the Hoboken natives have been on their albums for the past 20 years, they've decided to celebrate their platinum anniversary in style, with an all-new career-spanning retrospective, Prisoners of Love: A Smattering of Scintillating Senescent Songs, 1984-2003, due out March 22nd on longtime label Matador Records.

The album is being released as both a double CD and a limited edition triple disc-- the first two discs will collect highlights from Yo La Tengo's entire career, dating back to the band's first self-released 7", and also including relative rarities like "Shaker" and "By the Time it Gets Dark". Meanwhile, the third disc will feature official "rarities" not gathered on the group's previous b-side comp, Genius + Love = Yo La Tengo. The tracks on disc three of Prisoners of Love run the gamut from previously released b-sides, soundtrack offerings, and remixes, to several truly unreleased tracks. Tracklists:

The Hoboken trio also has a DVD compilation scheduled for release in 2005, but it's not necessarily related to the CD compilations and it probably won't be released concurrently. Which is a pretty way of saying we don't know anything about it. The band is not currently on tour, but they're playing one show, and even though it's only one show, we're gonna write it out all nicelike because that's just how we roll. Check it:
