Doves Announce LP Tracklist, Tour UK

Any Pitchfork readers who have not heard both Doves albums-- 2000's Lost Souls and 2002's The Last Broadcast-- are missing out on an essential experience...and we¡¯re mostly not being ironic here. Brit guitar melodrama knows no greater heights. And now, the Return of the King/Jedi of this trilogy will soon emerge; the new Doves full-length, Some Cities, will grace our shores March 1st.

Co-produced by the band and Ben Hiller, Cities was recorded both in Liverpool and Loch Ness, the latter affording the band some evocative on-location work-- the aptly titled ballad "Ambition" come to fruition in a desolate Benedictine Monastery. "It's closed down now," singer/guitarist Jimi Goodwin told NME. "I think the last monk was like 93. There was no new blood coming through-- why would you? So they closed it down and sold it and typically it¡¯s gonna become flats at some point. But we went in there, did the old whistle test, clapped our hands and there was just this cavernous sound. And we had this song that we hadn¡¯t recorded that was very hushed. It just came together. We asked if we could do it and in three hours came out with the song. No time at all as opposed to labouring on it."

The first single off Some Cities, "Black & White Town", will be released in the UK on Feb. 7. Full LP tracklist:
