Pitchfork: The Fiery Furnaces to Issue Double LP

Musically divisive they may be, but the Fiery Furnaces are also the most focused, productive pack of ritalin kids we've ever seen, with all due respect to the legend of Isaac Brock. As previously reported, the Friedberger siblings (and their grandmother) are currently tight in the grips of finishing a two-album set-- half of which will be titled Garfield El-- and also tidied up their discography last week by releasing an excellent 10-track singles compilation not-so-accurately titled EP that showcases 'em in a more pop-friendly vein.

Billboard has published the not-too-surprising revelation that the band expects to mount a fall tour following the release of Garfield El and its as-yet-untitled counterpart.

Meanwhile, the Friedbergers have been revealing more about the shadowy figure driving one of the two upcoming releases, their grandmother Olga Sarantos. Speaking to Billboard, Eleanor said, "She's been the choir director of her church since the 50s. And if anyone in our family was supposed to make records, it was probably her. She has a real diva personality and is always telling lots of funny stories. And she has a great voice and has a great presence." As stated here before, Olga will be lending vocal support to the album in what Eleanor describes as a sort of pop-music radio play, including a song in which Olga recounts how she got plastered the night she was to first meet her father-in-law.
