Spoon Sign Distribution Deal With Matador

As we reported a couple of weeks ago, Spoon's fifth album, Gimme Fiction, will be released May 10 in North America via a very excited Merge Records-- the label is hinting on its website that an advance single and/or a stream of the entire album might be in the works. It was also recently announced that Gimme Fiction will be released internationally on May 9 courtesy of Matador Records. And hey! They're excited too.

Merge will handle all North American distribution, while Matador will be responsible for the rest of the world. Matador's website also had some cryptic information about the album straight from the band, and we knew you'd want to read it: "Gimme Fiction is the wildest Spoon LP to date-- it's also Jim Eno's favorite...What else...it begins with the sound of a nice, long inhale and ends with the Tosca Strings. It covers such topics as long distance relationships, the apocalyptic bent of certain American Southerners, neckrugs, emotional shutdowns, Ralph Reed Jr., a musical called The Stranger Dance, and Marquette, Michigan. Did I mention it's the longest Spoon record yet?" No, you didn't. However, you did already mention the tracklist, not that that will stop us from printing it again:

Tour dates are almost certain to follow, as is the protocol for this type of thing. But for now, Spoon have a couple of dates in England lined up later this month: the Saturday of All Tomorrow's Parties in Camber Sands on the 26th, followed by a headlining show in London on Monday the 28th at the Garage.
