Six Organs Prepare for Short U.S. tour

If Devendra Banhart is the shirtless flag-waver of this burgeoning free(ak)-folk movement, Ben Chasny of Six Organs of Admittance is its Betsy Ross. Or maybe just a flag burner. The heft of his oft-minimalist guitar numbers is frightening-- raga tendencies rub against droney sheets of vocal overdubs and morose atmospherics temper near-religious moments of revelry, as his compositions demand the fullest attention. It's all rather spellbinding, if we do say so outselves.

This month, fresh off the late January release of his latest album-- the first studio-recorded Six Organs LP, School of the Flower-- Chasny is setting out on a small tour of the U.S. And as if his oblique folk wasn't enough already, Patrick Gubler's revivalist PG Six and free-jazz drummer Chris Corsano will be joining Chasney on this string of dates:
