The O.C. Compiles Beck, Modest Mouse, Sufjan Stevens

You knew their stardom was for real when Modest Mouse appeared on Fox's "The O.C." in January, performing a couple of songs whilst main character Seth Cohen (Adam Brody) got drunk and embarrassed himself. Admittedly, this is the only episode of the show I've seen, because I was curious to see what songs Isaac Brock would choose to perform. As suspected, he did not play "Float On," and for that I congratulate him.

According to a Billboard report, Music from The O.C.: Mix 4 will be the fourth entry in a series of albums compiling music featured in the show. In addition to Modest Mouse, who contribute "The View", the set features a song from Beck's upcoming Guero LP, as well as songs by Sufjan Stevens ("To Be Alone With You"), A.C. Newman ("On the Table"), the Futureheads ("Decent Days and Nights"), and Pinback ("Fortress"). Last season, an episode featured Ryan Adams' cover of Oasis' "Wonderwall". Sticking with that tradition, the last track is a cover of the Gallaghers' "Champagne Supernova" by Matt Pond PA.

The album, released by Warner Bros., is due to hit stores April 5. The previous three entries in this series together have combined sold more than 400,000 copies in the U.S., according to SoundScan. So it seems that "official" mixtapes are popular these days-- Zach Braff won a Grammy the other night for making one (otherwise known as the Garden State soundtrack).
