Pitchfork: Micah P. Hinson to Play U.S. in April

Some artists benefit from a back story-- one such example is Micah P. Hinson. He grew up in a fundamentalist Texan family, packed years of turbulent living under his belt, and released his first album, entitled Micah P. Hinson and the Gospel of Progress in late 2004. Recorded with the Earlies and rleased via UK label Sketch Book Records, the album is comprised of songs composed during a troubled time in Hinson's life where, at the tender age of nineteen, he was bankrupt and living out of a hotel while working a telemarketing job. The album placed at #5 on the Rough Trade Shops top 100 LPs of 2004 list, and the track "I Still Remember" is featured on the famed music shop's 2xCD Counter Culture 04 compilation, alongside songs by The Go! Team, Mu, Brooks, and Animal Collective, among others.

Hinson has recently signed with Overcoat Recordings, who will be issuing The Gospel of Progress in the U.S. on April 26. This spring, Hinson plans on playing a handful of shows alongside Crooked Fingers, while a full U.S. tour is slated for late summer or fall. He's also playing at San Francisco's Noise Pop festival next week, opening for Damon & Naomi and Vetiver. Dates:
