Orange Juice Comp to Be Released

Frustrated over Interpol fans who barely know who Ian Curtis is? Maybe you should stop being so grumpy. Also, it could be worse-- those Joy Division records your friends don't want to bother with could be out of print, forgotten by nearly everyone save a handful of collectors, writers, and-- of course-- a certain well-dressed New York quartet. That is, essentially, what befell Orange Juice, a Scottish band from whom Franz Ferdinand, in their milder moments, have taken more than a few pointers. Though Orange Juice frontman Edwyn Collins resurfaced in the mid-90s with "A Girl Like You", the band's records have remained obscure. Domino, no fools they, are set to fix that just in time to attract the attention of a public who may have finally gotten tired of playing air guitar and singing "ner ner, nernerner ner ner" whenever the main riff of "Take Me Out" comes on the radio.

The Glasgow School comes out May 17 and focuses entirely on Orange Juice's early days, compiling their first four singles for Postcard Records with songs recorded for their proposed debut album, Ostrich Churchyard. That Postcard LP wasn't released until 1992; instead, the band signed to Polydor, repurposing eight of the songs for 1982 debut album You Can't Hide Your Love Forever and another for their follow-up album released later the same year, Rip It Up. Anyway, here's the whole, how do you say it, tracklist:

Edwyn Collins is currently still recovering from a serious cerebral hemorrhage he suffered on February 20-- the eventual impact is still unknown. In recent years he had created and acted in a BBC sitcom, and produced records for several younger bands.
