Pitchfork: Pretenders Video Collection to Hit DVD

You gotta admire Chrissie Hynde's endurance. The original punk-pop starlet broke both musical and sexual boundaries with the Pretenders debut album, became one of MTV's early video heroes, and even gave the punk kids their very own Grace Kelly/Prince Rainier pairing by romancing the Kinks' Ray Davies-- not bad for a girl from Akron, Ohio! And while Hynde and co. have yet to announce a follow-up album to 2002's overlooked Loose Screw, the Pretenders are capitalizing on their recent induction into the Rock Hall of Fame with a new DVD collection set to hit stores this summer.

Rhino has announced a June 7 release date for The Pretenders Greatest Hits, an upcoming DVD set that will package the most popular music videos from the outfit's 25-year career. The disc offers remastered 5.1 Surround Sound, and includes such 80s classics as "Brass in Pocket" and "Back on the Chain Gang", as well as more recent efforts like "Popstar" and Human". The collection also includes the 45-minute band documentary No Turn Left Unstoned, which covers the band's messy history, and features testimonials from Bono, Mark Mothersbaugh, Elvis Costello, Lemmy, and one-time New York Doll/Buster Poindexter David Johansen. Hot hot hot!!!
