Green Man Festival Details Announced

While many would never dream of straying from the ideal magical experience that is typical of most music festivals ("No obligatory puke'n'piss parade to the portable toilets? No surplus-meat atrocities posing as 'burgers'?"), the Green Man Festival, happening mid-August in Hay-on-Wye, Wales, will provide a different take on the sophisticated, large-scale, corporate mass-minglings that have mushroomed over the past couple of decades. And, as NME.com reports, this year's already-impressive roster of artists just got even stronger, as the enchanting singer-harpist Joanna Newsom has been named the headliner for the third night (Sunday) of the shindig.

The three-years-young festival is often associated with the so-called "folktronica" scene, and though there seems to be an almost fraternal feeling of mutual admiration and friendship between the acts confirmed, there will be a collection of varying musical delights to be heard in this remote Welsh riverside town from August 19th to the 21st. Green Man, started by Jo Bartlett and Danny Hagan (more commonly known in musical circles as the excellent retro-modern combo It's Jo and Danny), will also include sets by Bonnie 'Prince' Billy (headlining Saturday night), Adem, Alasdair Roberts, Micah P. Hinson, Aberfeldy, James Yorkston, and the Earlies, as well as the aforementioned festival organizers, and many others still to be announced. In addition to tons of great music, expect films, literature readings, DJ sets, and many child-friendly activities. However, don't expect any spandex-clad monsters of cock-rock. Probably.
