Dirty Projectors to Tour U.S.

Dave Longstreth, aka Dirty Projectors, took many years to make his latest album, The Getty Address, an opera that he describes as: "An album-length narrative inspired by Aztec mythology, the Eagles, and the 9/11 aftermath."

In fact, Longstreth started the album while at Yale, stopped working on it, released two other records, and then finally released the Getty Address earlier this month. But despite delays, the Getty Address is building momentum, as Longstreth has decided to bring the entire opera to audiences, complete with a companion film, additional singers, and orchestral arrangements.

Longstreth described how the live show will go down in an email to Pitchfork: "We will be performing the opera entirely live, somewhat re-orchestrated, and with some interpolations from the sequel to The Getty Address, which is called The Henley Address. Also super exciting: My pal the video-artist James Sumner has been working on an animated movie of The Getty Address for about a year now. On tour he will be projecting animations from the movie with live max/jitter alterations."

There will be nine people total on stage for this, according to Longstreth, including his opening acts: "Joe Grimm, aka the Wind Up Bird, is coming along and will be weaving soft/hard womb spells in quadraphonic sound (seriously) every night. Also Nat Baldwin, who sings beautifully and plays the upright bass, will be playing several of the bills as his solo self. And so will Emily Cheeger, who is from Finland, and whose Nom De Music is VUK."
