Flower Booking to Host Concert Series

If summer festivals aren't your thingm there's something in Chicago besides Intonation and Lollapalooza to satisfy those indie urges--not so much a festival, but rather a series of concerts. From September 27 through October 2, Chicago's Metro will host Flower15, a fundraiser set up by one of the most prominent booking agencies in independent music, who currently organize tours for Interpol, Ted Leo & the Pharmacists, Minus the Bear, Mouse on Mars, Pinback, Ratatat, Q and Not U, Tortoise, and many others.

The tradition began five years ago when Flower Booking grew to be 10 years old. In honor of that anniversary they put together the Flower10 series, six glorious evenings at the Metro featuring the likes of the Sea and Cake, Burning Airlines, Califone, and Trans Am. Proceeds from the indie showcase went to a local charity called P.L.A.Y., a program designed to help children who come from abusive homes.

In 2005 the tradition rolls on, and the agency hopes to raise the bar this time with a goal of raising over $50,000 for P.L.A.Y. And while the performing acts remain a mystery, we're told they'll be from the very best that Flower has to offer. What's more, they've also hinted at "some special band reunions and other surprises." For the record, some departed bands formerly on the Flower roster include the Grifters, Shiner, and Don Caballero. Let the speculation begin!
