Jim Yoshii Pile-Up to Release New Album in July

For the past eight months, when they haven't been doing donuts at sideshows in Oakland, the Jim Yoshii Pile-Up have been hard at work on their third LP, titled Picks Us Apart. The album comes out July 26 on Absolutely Kosher, with guest appearances by Alex Kort (Subtle) on cello, Liza Reitz (The Swords Project) on accordion, and Xiu Xiu's Jamie Stewart on occasional vocals.

Fans of Xiu Xiu lured in by Stewart's cameos could find the music surprising-- in a recent email newsletter, singer Paul Gonzenbach stated his intention to sound like Echo & The Bunnymen-- but lyrically, things may be more familiar. Said Gonzenbach: "[The lyrics] are a lot more obviously gay in parts. I haven't written too many songs that were obviously fiction in the past, but there are lots of songs on this record where I'm writing from a perspective that's clearly not mine. For example, I'm not actually a prisoner dying of AIDS." And an excellent example it is. Tracklist:

01 A Toast to the Happy Couple
02 Jailhouse Rock
03 Heart My Home
04 Black & Gold
05 Low Rent Horror
06 Silver Sparkler
07 The Mind of God
08 The Hall Clock
09 R.E.V.U.L.S.I.O.N.
10 Beach Glass
11 Thanksgiving Grey

The Jim Yoshii Pile-Up will tour in August and again in October, hitting the CMJ Music Marathon in between.
