Coldplay Announce Extensive North American Tour

Who is going to babysit Apple Martin all summer? After finishing up some European business in June and July, Chris Martin and pals will hop the pond and play two months worth of shows in North America. The tour will begin on August 2 in Toronto and end in Virginia on September 30. In that time, they'll play the North, the South, the East, the West, the Midwest, the Southwest, the Pacific Northwest, New England, Canada, and, of course, Texas. But no dates in the Dakotas? Outrage!

On this tour, Coldplay will play such intimate venues as Madison Square Garden and Alpine Valley. They will rock more Tweeter and Verizon Centers than you can handle! No pavilion or amphitheater from sea to shining sea will go unscathed! This, friends, is a massive tour.

As previously reported, the new Coldplay album, X&Y;, will be released in North America on June 7 and in a place called Europe on June 6. In other news, Coldplay will perform on the season finale of "Saturday Night Live" on May 21. Also, the music video for "Speed of Sound", the album's lead single, will premiere on MTV2 on May 24 and on plain ol' MTV on May 25. The video was directed by Mark Romanek, he of Jay-Z's "99 Problems" and Johnny Cash's "Hurt" fame.

As the tour nears its end in September, they will headline the opening day of Austin City Limits. Supporting Coldplay on this epic North American quest will be Rilo Kiley. X's and Y's:
