Boredoms Begin Brief North American Tour

As band hiatuses go, three years is about long enough for fans to worry whether the "break" is actually a "break-up". Such was the case with the Boredoms, who, after 2001's Vision Creation Newsun on Birdman Records, seemed destined for permanent hiatus status as various members pursued side projects.

Late last year, the band surprised fans with the release of Seadrum/House of Sun, which just saw its U.S. release on Atlantic Records this month; though the Boredoms recorded it several years ago, its appearance is auspicious. Also surprising are the announced handful of North American tour dates, which kick off tonight in Los Angeles. More dates may follow in 2006, though it's impossible to tell, as the Boredoms are about as predictable to us as a carload of Japanese snack foods. The dates:

05-17 Los Angeles, CA - Knitting Factory *
05-19 San Francisco, CA - The Independent #
05-21 Chicago, IL - Logan Square Auditorium *
05-23 Victoriaville, Quebec - Festival Actuelle
05-25 New York, NY - Bowery Ballroom $

* with Soft Circle
# with Rubber O Cement
$ with Jim O'Rourke and Growing
