Pitchfork: New Order Consider Outtakes Album

Manchester old wavers New Order are known for a great many qualities-- their history, their style, their influence-- but considering that they've only released two albums since 1993's Republic, they can't really be noted for their productivity. We're not trying to call them total slouches (they get props just for making it this far without becoming Bono), it's just that, well, we don't expect much.

And yet, in a recent interview with XFM, bassist Peter Hook and drummer Stephen Morris said that they recorded so much material during the sessions for their latest LP that they already have enough for another album. Mr. Hook said of Waiting For The Sirens' Call, "It was nice because at the end the ideas just came very quickly, but then we had so many ideas and Bernard [Sumner, vocalist] wouldn't let any of 'em go. We're used to him making our lives a misery, but he made us finish 'em all."

This isn't quite as entertaining as our favorite New Order interview-- that would be the one where Hook accused Morris of driving a tank and storing a broom in his refrigerator-- but it's nice to see the lads getting such a powerful second wind. At this rate, by age 75, they should be cranking these things out every other week.

No word on a title or release date yet, but we're not in a huge hurry to find out, 'cause we're too busy buying tickets to all these European festivals they're playing this summer:
