Black Mountain to Join Coldplay on tour

Well, they do say it's the quiet ones you have to watch out for. It must be true, because according to their Australian label, Low Transit Recordings, referential rockers Black Mountain have been asked to support none other than arena anthem giants Coldplay on most of that band's upcoming U.S./Canada tour. Somehow we can't picture the Coldplay boys trading in their designer-downtrodden clothes for authentic Jack Daniels sleeveless bacteria traps any time soon. Nor do we imagine Mr. Paltrow putting young daughter Apple to bed with a soothing Black Mountain lullaby of "the war machine keeps on rolling/ Evil minds and hearts of stone". But maybe that's just us.

While the pairing might seem odd at first blush, there's a simple explanation: Coldplay love the rawk. Allegedly, a Black Mountain tour of U.S. and Canada will be announced soon for September, but until that time North Americans will have to make do with the cavernous environs of Coldplay-size venues if they want to witness Black Mountain's continued campaign to rescue heavy rock from the scrap heap of history. In record news, the Vancouver quintet will re-release the trippy trance of "Druganaut" on a CD EP by Jagjaguwar this June 7. A 12" single for the track (taken from Black Mountain's self-titled debut) was originally released in November 2004 and included "Druganaut (Remix)" and "Buffalo Swan". These tracks will be collected on the EP along with "Bicycle Man" (from their split 7" single with Destroyer) and "No Satisfaction (Campfire Version)".
