Killers Plan Lengthy "Thriller"-like Movie

If we've learned anything from Project Greenlight (or, to a lesser extent, "Britney & Kevin: Chaotic"), it's that making a horror film can be stupefyingly frustrating. The scripts suck, the fake blood's too syrupy, the zombie union won't work past 5 p.m., and Matt Damon won't stop hovering around like he's everybody's goddamn friend.

But Brandon Flowers and his Killers haven't made it this far by being quitters, are we right? According to a report on Billboard.com, the band plans to produce a 25-minute movie in the fashion of Michael Jackson's 1983 "Thriller" (their comparison, not ours). Drummer Ronnie Vannucci told Billboard, "We want to make a movie-- not so much a music video-- based on three songs to be played on MTV." The three songs are "Midnight Show" and "Jenny Was a Friend of Mine" from the Killers' platinum debut, Hot Fuss, and an unreleased song "Leave the Bourbon on the Shelf"; they appear to tell the story of a murder committed by a jealous boyfriend and its aftermath.

The lads have already met with a slew of "established" Hollywood directors and actors for the project and hope to have the train wreck cleaned up by the end of this year, when they can use the flick to bridge the gap between Hot Fuss and their sophomore album, due out next spring.

Vannucci says the band will hit the studio again in November, with ten concrete tracks already worked out now. "I think we're trying to open up a bit," he said. "At least the kind of the mindset we're going in with is leaving some space. We kind of collectively think that a lot of stuff on Hot Fuss is a little too cluttered sounding."

As for the here and now, however, the Killers are on the last leg of a massive world tour, which will take them through August, including a few stops in Europe with U2. Those dates are these:
