Pitchfork: Three Gut Records Closes Shop

For every Warner, Sony, or Interscope that can afford to put out albums that do not sell that many copies, there is a label that struggles to get by. Three Gut Records is one of these such labels. The Toronto-based label was founded in 1999 by Lisa Moran and Tyler Clark Burke. The home of such artists as the Constantines, Oneida, Jim Guthrie, and Sea Snakes, TGR has announced that the upcoming Constantines release, Tournament of Hearts will be the label's last official release.

A post on the label's site reads: "I'm sorry I haven't had the heart to tell you this sooner. I've been struggling with my words. Trying to be graceful with my timing and delivery but I'm just going to stick with my bad timing and clumsy ways and lay it on you. The Constantines new album, Tournament of Hearts will be the last official release for Three Gut Records. It's bitter sweet, for sure- but, I can't really think of a better cap to seal the vault with.

"Sorry to be sentimental on a website, but here goes: the last 5-years have been the best and most life-altering for me thanks to TGR. I feel a part of the most amazing community of creative friends. Travel, adventure, rock shows, laughter, new friends, satisfying work, so much learning, so much kindness and the loveliest people to cause a little ruckus with.

"There was never a master plan for Three Gut. Which I suppose is our greatest strength and weakness all wrapped up in one! There is no real long winded reason. It just feels like it's time to move on. We really succeeded so early on with our goal to get people out to our friends shows and let them hear the music that we loved so much. It turned out doing that was really fun- so we kept at it." The site will continue to be updated until the Constantines' record is release and the future projects of TGR's artists.
