Death Cab's Walla Joins PETA2 Campaign

Furthering the cause for sensitive, cardigan-wearing guys everywhere, Death Cab for Cutie virtuoso (and fervent vegetarian) Chris Walla has joined forces with peta2-- the red-headed step-cousin of PETA that aims for youth involvement-- to churn out a public service announcement in hopes to steer more indie kids toward veggies.

The PSA, designed by Walla, co-stars a plate of colorful vegetables against a white background, next to the tagline "Add Some Color to Your Life-- Try Vegetarianism!" PETA will run the PSA on billboards later this year.

Walla now joins an enviable list of indie rockers who have taken the plunge for PETA's younger, hipster-geared offshoot. The Shins, Neko Case, Common, Le Tigre, and Bright Eyes are all on board, and as previously reported, the Fiery Furnaces' Matt Friedberger recently popped up on peta2's website, proclaiming, "It's absurd that a rabbit fur hat needs to be a fashion item. It's surprising that you have to go back again and again to remind people and educate people that the fur industry is an extremely cruel business."

Those rabbit's foot keychains, though, are still pretty damn cool.
