Isaac Brock Assists Wolf Parade on Their Debut LP

With hockey season on indefinite hold, it's been a year-and-a-half of unusually high output from our friends in the Canadian music scene (now there's a thesis for your next term paper). Keeping up the pace are Montreal's celebrated indie outfit Wolf Parade, who recently announced two upcoming releases-- an EP and and an LP-- both featuring production by Modest Mouse frontman Isaac Brock.

Kicking things off with a July 7 street date is a self-titled EP of new material, featuring two preview tracks taken from the upcoming LP. The four-song disc also features two non-album b-sides, natch, and will be released via Sub Pop on both CD and 12" formats. Game on:

01 Shine a Light
02 You Are a Runner, And I Am My Father's Son
03 Disco Sheets
04 Lousy Pictures

Speaking about the self-titled EP's release to the Montreal Mirror, Dan Boeckner recently rattled off the following nonsense. Note to all artists currently reading: We like quotes like these, as they make less work for us.

"We were gonna call it Totalosity, because it's a term that totally applies to the band. We always try to be gentle and delicate with the songwriting arrangements. We have these grand ideas for intricately structured songs, and then we go to the practice spot to play them and inevitably the songs get louder and louder and louder until they achieve what I like to call totalosity. Usually near the end of the song, it's at maximum volume. It's like an ape in a dinner jacket trying to sit down to a fancy dinner and use the salad fork correctly. Things go okay for a while, but eventually he's just peeing on the table."

And as for the main course: Wolf Parade's upcoming LP, Apologies to the Queen Mary, is currently set for a September 27 release. Upping the ante on our expectations for the new disc, we must announce that none other than the Canadian edition of Time Magazine dubbed the LP one of "Canada's Most Anticipated Indie Albums of the Year." So, wait, does every periodical have a special Canadian version? Do we? This is freaky. Anyway, tracks:

01 You Are a Runner and I Am My Father's Son
02 Modern World
03 Grounds For Divorce
04 We Built Another World
05 Fancy Claps
06 Same Ghost Every Night
07 Shine a Light
08 Dear Sons and Daughters of Hungry Ghosts
09 I'll Believe in Anything
10 It's a Cure
11 Dinner Bells
12 This Heart's on Fire

Wolf Parade currently have few shows scheduled-- just a festival appearance in Oslo on August 11 and another in Emmaboda, Sweden on August 12.
