Pitchfork: Seu Jorge Schedules U.S. Shows

There are three ways to hear the songs of David Bowie in Portuguese: 1) Sing them to yourself, in Portuguese; 2) Get someone who speaks Portuguese to sing them to you; 3) Check out the special features on your The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou DVD, where you can hear Brazilian singer Seu Jorge perform 10 of the Thin White Duke's songs (in Portuguese). The home video release has full-length versions of the early Bowie songs that audiences heard just pieces of in the theater.

Jorge's own childhood was very different from the life of space-bound, glittery decadence he sings about on the soundtrack-- he grew up in a Brazilian slum and fixed tires to support his family. Jorge put that street cred to good use when he played "Knockout Ned" in City of God, which was nominated for a handful of Oscars. Jorge also sings about those Brazilian slums and, er, rallies against breast implants on Cru (translation: "Raw"), his debut album on Wrasse Records. The record will be released on September 6.

Currently, Jorge is on a tour of France that will be on and off throughout the month of July. In September, he will visit the U.S. for a tour of the East and Midwest, with more dates forthcoming. Seu close, yet Seu far away:
