The Coup Schedule Fall Tour

Boots and Pam the Funkstress, the two halves of anarcho-marxist hip- hop duo the Coup, haven't released an album since 2001's Party Music, an album whose pre-9/11 album cover depicted Boots detonating the World Trade Center (oops). Amid all the controversy surrounding the cover's prophetic nature, the Coup's radical politics, FBI investigations, and the cover's subsequent withdrawal, it's not so surprising that the music on Party Music became sort of a secondary side-note. That special brand of Yippie-inspired funk is hard to ignore in concert, however, and so the Coup have announced a 24-date tour that will mostly take place this October.

Plus, the Coup remains on Epitaph Records, which reissued Party Music last November, and Boots has been recently working on a fifth Coup album, tentatively titled Pick a Bigger Weapon. According to a Res Magazine article from late 2004, Boots described the new material as "more Funkadelic than Parliament, more Dirty Mind than Purple Rain", which should make for a danceable enough revolution. Here's to hoping Boots and Pam will take the new material to the streets before the record drops. And that the cover art depicts Pitchfork winning a Pulitzer. Dates:
