Darkness Replace Bassist, Plan LP

After a brief period of internal turmoil, the Darkness are setting things right and getting ready to rock a new album. First things first: the band confirmed on their website that the replacement for departed bassist Frankie Poullain will, as rumored, be Richie Edwards, who formerly held the position of guitar tech for guitarist Dan Hawkins. "Richie's a good laugh and he's really good at playing bass, and at this stage that's all that matters," said frontman Justin Hawkins of their newest addition. And a fine bassist he may be, but we're still most interested in the awesome Tiny Tim impression Hawkins laid down on "I Believe in a Thing Called Love".

According to the NME, the group have set a release date for their follow-up to 2003's Permission To Land. The as-yet-untitled sophomore album lands October 17 in the UK, following the release of a new single, also currently unnamed, on October 3. Frontman Hawkins has a solo album, titled British Wail, set for release a few months after his band's LP; he described it to one interviewer as "luxurious rock." Bring out the tuxedo catsuit!
