Midwest Music Summit Hits Indy Later This Month

You wouldn't expect there to be a thriving music scene in Indianapolis, but don't be fooled. Now in its fifth year, the Midwest Music Summit draws the same sort of interest as its older brother in Austin, and does it without the overwhelming crowds. Held July 21-23, this year is expected to be even bigger than the last, with venues all over town hosting such bands as the French Kicks, Zero Boys, Dressy Bessy, Radio Holiday, the Scotland Yard Gospel Choir, the Ponys...and the list keeps growing. Everything from jambands to indie rock are on the block, from the Upper Room to the Monkey's Tale (those are venues, not bands).

But the dark of night is not the only setting for the festivities- for a cheap registration fee, aspiring hipsters can attend an array of seminars and conferences designed to teach do-it-yourselfers how to do it. Labels from mammoth to tiny will be in attendance, providing a wide perspective on a dirty business.

Ah, who are we kidding? The French Kicks!
