I Love You But I've Chosen to Record a Full-Length Album

Singer and guitarist Christian Goyer gave Pitchfork some details on the recording process, which has been dominating the band's time for the last year. In that time the band has recorded and chucked two sessions, as well as building their own studio in a space belonging to their friends (and comrades in band-name aesthetic) And You Will Know Us By The Trail of The Dead.

"We've never taken this much time," Goyer said. "We did two sessions with two different engineers, and finally we were like, 'Fuck this. This is not working.' I don't think we're going to use those songs. We just decided to go a different route."

Their 2003 EP was recorded by Britt Daniel, while this record will be produced by Paul Barker of the bands Ministry and Lard. As a result, Goyer said he expects these recordings to yield a different sound than previous sessions: "We worked with Britt and everyone was really happy with it. I think working with him did impact the way the EP sounded. This time, we want to do something that sounds different overall. It's not a radical departure, don't get me wrong," he said. "You might hear it and go, 'This sounds just like the last shit.'"

Goyer also said that after this Friday's show, where they'll be playing with Mission of Burma as part of Austin venue Emo's 13th Anniversary celebration, the band will stop playing shows for a while to concentrate on recording their album.
