Pitchfork: Def Jux Releases Music Video DVD

Do you spend your nights enduring episodes of "The Andy Milonakis Show" and "Viva La Bam" in the hopes of eventually catching an El-P video on MTV2? Things are looking up: With last Tuesday's release of Little Movies, Big Noises: The Complete Definitive Jux Music Video DVD Collection, a compendium of the New York indie label's videos, it's now possible to see hip hop's freshest firecrotch and his friends/business associates any time you want (in video form, anyway.) Taking dead aim at the wallets of backpackers everywhere, the disc is coming more loaded than Nick Nolte at an open bar, with extras like a live performance by Mr. Lif and making-of featurettes on RjD2's "The Horror" and Aesop Rock's "Freeze".

Also included is a bonus disc featuring a program called UMIXIT that'll allow fans to remix songs by El-P, RjD2, Mr. Lif and Cage. Its eight tracks will let you re-record vocals as well as add all sorts of cool. It's fun and educational; if you practice for a few minutes, you can be better than DJ Spooky!

On September 20, the label will release Cage's new album Hell's Winter, a psycho-rap epic that those in-the-know are calling the best Def Jux release in ages. Although the record features contributions from un-scary indie types like Yo La Tengo's James McNew, Matt Sweeney of Chavez/Zwan/Superwolf, and Daryl Palumbo of Glassjaw/Head Automatica, it still manages to be utterly terrifying (in a heart-thudding PJ Harvey/Eminem way, not a crappy Insane Clown Posse/Anna Nicole Smith way.) Watch out.
