Directors Label DVD Series Continues

For some people, it's not enough to merely listen to music; they much prefer to listen and watch their favorite songs at the same time. What weirdoes. For this breed of music enthusiast, there are few things cooler than Palm Pictures' Directors Label line of DVDs, which gathers the work of select video auteurs. The first three installments, released in 2003, compiled clips from Spike Jonze, Chris Cunningham, and Michel Gondry. Apparently the aforementioned weirdos are quite numerous, as all three volumes have been certified gold in the United States, UK, and Japan, among other places, with Jonze's disc recently reaching platinum status in the U.S.

On September 13, Palm will unveil four more volumes in the series, chronicling the careers of Anton Corbijn, Jonathan Glazer, Mark Romanek, and Stephane Sedanoui. These names may not incite the feverous glee among the hipster crowd that Jonze and Cunningham do, but collectively they've worked with the likes of David Bowie, Beck, Sonic Youth, (pre-Green Album) Weezer, Jay-Z, Radiohead, Blur, Massive Attack, Nine Inch Nails, U2, Joy Division, Depeche Mode, Nirvana, Echo and the Bunnymen, Björk, and dozens of other musicians (and Alanis Morissette-- ZING!)

As with previous installments, these discs contain a ridiculous number of extras-- way more than anyone would want to read about in this article, in fact. Viewers can expect to see things like short films, commercials, interviews, and documentaries. Each volume comes with a 56-page book in full color featuring an interview and whatever else the director wants.
