Pitchfork: Iron & Wine, Calexico to Tour Together

Still feeding off the buzz generated by their high-profile appearance on the surprise hit soundtrack to Garden State (really, how many indie-love makeout sessions has that album spawned?), several new Iron & Wine dates have been slated for October. But these aren't your average, everyday Iron & Wine shows, oh no. Rather, this tour will be a live-action reenactment of the collaboration between Sam Beam and everybody's favorite mariachi-indie band, Calexico, which resulted in the forthcoming Lays in the Reigns EP. Speaking to Pitchfork earlier this summer, Calexico's Joey Burns described the effort as having "that Tucson, Arizona sound." Whatever that means.

According to the PR gods, this tour will be "in the style of Bob Dylan's Rolling Thunder Revue. Each band will play their own set, then they will team up for a set together and special guests will appear in each city."

And while this February saw Iron & Wine release the pleasant Woman King EP, the official follow up to their/his last full length album, 2004's sophomore effort Our Endless Numbered Days, has yet to be announced. But, as is our way, we'll keep you posted on both the status of both the record and Sam Beam's beard-- which, like Conor Oberst's hair, is an indie rock institution all its own.
