Menomena to Release Seven-Inch on Polyvinyl

We here at Pitchfork may act all hip, but in truth we're just a bunch of little kiddies looking for a clean-cut good time. We like to frolic, we save gum under our desks for later, and we LOVE exclamation points!!! That, along with their damn good music, is why we especially love !!! (as usual, don't try to pronounce it), and why we can't get enough of Menomena, the wildly experimental but delightfully hooky Portland-based pop trio. Their first album, I Am the Fun Blame Monster!, was released by Muuuhahaha! records, and we chuckle. Oh, we chuckle. And then we wonder why they don't call themselves Menomena!

The obviously very cheery collective haven't yet made plans to follow up their debut, but in the meantime, we'll be whetting our appetites with a seven-inch vinyl release that came out on Tuesday, August 9 on Polyvinyl records. The disc will consist of two tracks that didn't make it on the album: "Tung Track" and "Posh Isolation." But the real reason for grabbing this one before it goes away is the packaging, which was designed by member Danny Seim and is, we're told, pretty fooking awesome. Hand screenprinted! Die-cut jackets! On chipboard!
