Belle & Sebastian, Go! Team Added to War Child Comp

The Brits love going overboard-- just look at their ferocious consumption of Crazy Frog ringtones. So last week, when we reported that the compilation Help: A Day in the Life, a benefit for the UK-based War Child charity which will be released in September, would feature Radiohead, Gorillaz, Manic Street Preachers, Bloc Party, Hard-Fi, Razorlight, the Coral, Elbow, Mylo, the Zutons, Maxïmo Park, and the Magic Numbers, did you think they'd stop at that measly lineup? Of course not! Since then, Belle & Sebastian, the Go! Team, Damien Rice, and Kaiser Chiefs have all been added, along with everybody's favorite ColdplaynotColdplay band, Keane, who are contributing a version of Elton John's "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road".

Once again, here's the comp's backstory: Back in September 1995, 20 acts took 24 hours to each record a new song for the original Help compilation for War Child. The album became the fastest-ever number-one on the British charts, and proceeds benefited victims of the war in the former Yugoslavia. To commemorate Help's 10th anniversary, they're doing the whole thing all over again. The songs will be recorded on September 8 and available on the War Child website for download the following day, making it the fastest album release of all time. A CD version you can buy in stores will follow soon after. Proceeds from the new Help will go toward feeding, healing, and educating children in war zones such as Iraq, Afghanistan, and Democratic Republic of the Congo. And us Americans can get back to our charity-album-induced inferiority complex.
